Today is:


Christmas shopping on the Internet. (Part #1)

My daughter who is in college told me she would really like to see the Tennessee Titans play a football game.  She even asked me if that would be a possibility for a Christmas present.  Like most fathers of adorable daughters if it is in my power to make it happen I would make it happen.  Being the CEO of an Internet company I decided to search for the tickets on the Internet.  I want to share the steps and results with you.

1.  I needed to find the closest game to Oklahoma City.  I did that by visiting the NFL website:  http://www.nfl.com   There I found out that the Tennessee Titans will play the Houston Texans on December 29th, in Houston.

2.  I had the venue and the date but needed to find tickets.  My first stop took me to: http://www.ticketmaster.com/section where I quickly learned that the game was sold out!  I brought up Google Search engine http://www.google.com/ and typed in, "tickets titans texans".  Resigned to the fact I would have to pay more than the face value for each ticket, I began a search:  http://www.eventinventory.com, http://www.ticketsnow.com

3.  The prices were incredible and I began to complain to several people in the office.  Our FullNet Network Engineer Michael Tomas is a power seller on E-bay. Upon his suggestion, I went to:  http://www.stores.ebay.com/ and typed in, "Titans Texans tickets".  Several different opportunities to buy tickets came up, so I watched the auctions for a couple of weeks to get a feel for pricing and seats.  Compared to the scalper sites on the net E-Bay looked good!

4.  I eventually spotted some tickets I wanted and decided to place a bid.  Little did I know that your good credit and credit card in hand means nothing on E-Bay.  You must be a registered user to buy or sell on E-bay.  I didn't have time for the formalities, so I asked Michael to place the bid for me and at the same time register me as a user. 

5.  I entered the bidding process with less than two hours to go on the biding.  It was easy.  I placed a bid $10.00 higher than the current bid and then gave them a cap I was willing to pay.  The entire bidding went up immediately to $110.00.  This was more than when I placed the bid but $100 below where I placed the maximum bid.  I went home to watch a movie with my son and let the computers do their work.  When I went online after the movie, I had won the bid! 

Next month I will write about the different payment options I have learned about from PayPal to BillPay.  I will also let you know about the game and how I secured the hotel rooms.

Be kind to your fellow FullNet Members!

This month I wanted to remind you of some of our policies and how they benefit you, the FullNet member.  More specifically I wanted to talk about our usage policy and help you to understand how it affects you.

In order to best serve you, FullNet allows unlimited attended access.  The key word here is "attended."  This means FullNet specifically prohibits programs or applications that keep your connection alive while you are not physically at your computer.  When you do this, you tie up our equipment and prevent other members from using that connection.  With incorrect settings, you can inadvertently keep your connection to FullNet open for hours while you are not there.  In some cases we have had users whose computers are logged onto the FullNet service almost 24 hours a day!  This is obviously not someone sitting at the computer the whole time, but an abusive situation that causes problems for our other members.

The best way to prevent this from happening to you is to make sure you do not have your computer automatically dial-in to check email when you are not at your computer.  This type of abuse, along with auto-dialers and similar programs, can get your account with FullNet terminated.  When you're not at your computer, disconnect from the Internet and give someone else a turn.  Together, we can continue to make FullNet the best service available!
