Today is:

Location, Location, Location

The old Real-estate axiom is that if you want your property to support a business or appreciate in value as time goes by then the location of your property is the single largest contributing factor to your success or failure.

Enter the MMORPG

MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) is an online computer role-playing game in which a large number of players can interact together or against one another in the same game at the same time. An MMORPG follows a client-server model in which players, running the client software, are represented in the game world by an avatar — this is usually a graphical representation of the character they play. Providers, usually the game's publisher, host the persistent worlds these players inhabit. This interaction between a virtual world, always available for play, and an ever-changing, potentially worldwide stream of players characterizes the MMORPG genre. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

In one of the newest MMORPG’s to hit the market, Entropia, you can pay real US Dollars for Cyber Real-estate. One person has already paid $100,000 dollars for a virtual space station.

I personally have played Ultima Online http://www.uo.com for years and sold virtual objects, virtual real estate and weapons on EBAY. The single most differentiating aspect of what I have done verses the new games like Entropia is that Entropia has an actual guaranteed currency exchange rate.

The PED

The virtual currency in Project Entropia is PED, or Project Entropia Dollars.

Exchange rate

The fixed exchange rate equals 10 PED = 1 US Dollar.

Just when you think you have seen and done it all someone pays $100,000 for a virtual space station on a computer disk somewhere! The next thing you know there will be people making a living selling virtual real estate.

Enthusiastically,

Viruses, and hackers, and spam … Oh My!

The personal computer has become the center of our digital lifestyle. We don’t just store our photos, movies, music, resumes, and other valuable documents when the kids aren’t playing games … we stay connected to the world. If you have a computer, you use the Internet for digital communications including e-mail, instant messaging, online shopping, and banking. This combination has created the perfect environment for viruses, spyware, and less than scrupulous people to threaten your PC, data, and your very identity.

As we began discussing last month, for all its benefits … the internet can be an intimidating and frightening place to go exploring through. But it has become such an essential part of out lives that we must. Relax a bit; there are precautions that take away a lot of the fears and risks.

We covered the fact that FullNet has spam and virus filtering for your e-mail, that some versions of Windows have built in firewalls, and that there are a few products available for areas that these may not cover. Let’s face it, we can put you behind a ton of firewalls, filter spam from every e-mail you get, scan messages for possible viruses and still not be able to stop your cousin Bob from going to some “cool link” and downloading all manner of evils from his favorite ‘warez’ (pronounced like the word wares [we?(r)z] or, incorrectly, like Juárez [war?s]) site.

For proven security that protects your digital lifestyle, McAfee Internet Security Suite, not unlike Norton's product of the same name, offers very powerful and completely updateable protection against many of the evils of the internet. This security suite touts the ability to catch viruses, worms, and spyware long before they ever have an opportunity to do damage to your computer. McAfee's Internet Security Suite is also designed to stop PC break-ins and hijacking, and to try to head off phishing scams and spam.

So, take the 10 minutes it will require to load the software and feel free to e-mail, IM, share pictures, bank, and shop online knowing your PC, documents, and personal information are safe from Internet threats. Best of all, automatic updates ensure you always have the latest protection.

Following are some of the points that McAfee claims make their solution a strong one:

New! Automatic spyware and adware detection identifies, blocks, and removes potentially unwanted programs, such as spyware and adware, or other programs that jeopardize your privacy, identity or simply reduce PC performance.

New! Automated, daily virus signature updates help keep your PC protected from recently discovered virus and spyware threats.

New! Advanced firewall controls for granting an application Internet access, for a specified session only.

New! Gaming mode auto-detects whenever you’re in ‘Full-Screen’ mode, suppressing firewall pop-up messages and enhancing your on-line experience.

New! AntiPhishing Internet Explorer plug-in identifies and blocks potential ‘phishing’ websites.

Protects your identity by blocking the transmission of personally identifiable information and financial information, such as credit card numbers, that you want tracked.

Protects your privacy using enhanced content filtering techniques to help prevent the display of undesirable Internet content or unwanted online advertisements.

Protects your familywith parental control features that limits the display of specific Web sites based on pre-defined age groups, logs activities, and restricts Internet usage.

Inline cleaning automatically cleans infections when virus, worm, Trojan, ActiveX control and Java applet threats are detected from.

Always-on protection from viruses, spyware, spam, and ‘phishing’ threats that may enter your PC via instant message attachments, Internet downloads, and web browsing.

Auto-updates run silently in the background, ensuring you’re always protected from evolving and emerging security threats.

The upside: McAfee includes firewall, antivirus, and Internet privacy tools. The suite is easy to use and has consistent interface throughout.

The downside: We found support to be sub par and the spam filter is weak (but we have that covered for you at FullNet) and it opens new windows across the desktop.

The bottom line: McAfee Internet Security 6.0 is fine. Although it can often be difficult to choose the software that you will have to come to know and trust, McAfee Internet Security, with its abilities, adaptability, and value, is as good a choice as any.
